As a future teacher I find it very important to recognize the expectations I have for myself, my students and in my future classroom. In my Philosophy of Education I will focus on: what I believe to be the purpose of education, the role of the student and teacher, role of the teacher in the community, why I have chosen to become a teacher, and how my philosophy aligns with progressivism.
I believe the purpose of education is:

My philosophy aligns with the Progressivism Philosophy in these ways:
To become a teacher/educator takes a special person; not just anybody can take on this role. I believe I have chosen the right role as I love seeing children succeed in whatever they put their minds to. It’s kind of like the old saying, “Anything is possible if you just believe”. I believe this statement and feel if you put forth the effort and believe in yourself you will be an achiever. I enjoy encouraging students to do their best and watching them as they succeed.
I believe the purpose of education is:
- To extend my knowledge of education to my future students.
- To inspire students to want to become lifelong learners through teaching and learning to/from others.
- To introduce real life situations to students.
I believe the role of the student in education is to be:
- Involved in many activities and learn from them.
- Be respectful of their teachers and peers.
- An active participant in class so they can learn as much as possible for their benefit.
- Encouraging to their peers through all kinds of circumstances.
I believe the role of the teacher in education is to be:
- A positive role model to all students, parents/guardians and faculty.
- Able to recognize that not all children learn the same way and to be flexible with their teaching styles.
- Able to provide a comfortable and safe classroom that students will enjoy coming to each day.
- Be up-to-date on new software and teaching methods.
I believe the role of a teacher in the community is to be:
- Encouraging of the community to become involved with the school.
- A good example when he/she sees parents of students or students outside the classroom.
- Active in events outside of school to show she/he cares about the students outside of school and the community.
- A positive advisor of the school itself.
I have decided to become an educator for these reasons:
- To pass on my skills and knowledge I obtained throughout my years of schooling.
- To be an active listener to students who need that extra care and comfort in their lives.
- I want to share my school experiences with students to help and encourage them along the way.
- I want to be a positive role model for students who may not have that person at home.
- I love working with children and it makes me feel good when they are learning skills they can use forever.
My philosophy aligns with the Progressivism Philosophy in these ways:
- I think learning by hands-on is most important.
- I believe social interaction is a key role in education, whether it is between students or a student and teacher.
- More interesting topics will capture student’s attention better and they will want to continue to learn.
